Progress Evaluations

Progress Evaluation Update from Professor Lipsey - 4/3/06

-Prof. Lipsey sent out an e-mail to adjuncts inviting them to participate in progress evaluations. Heard back from piano, voice and guitar teachers - in these areas there were a number of adjuncts interested in coming. He hasn't heard back from brass of wind teachers.

-There is a harsher disciplinary policy (education and B.A. students must graduate at a NYSSMA level six)
-entering music majors be at NYSSMA level four
-by the end of their freshman year, students should be at NYSSMA level five
-by junior and senior years they should be at NYSSMA level six or above

-NYSSMA lists are now in the library on reserve for reference

-Numbers in the B.A./M.A. lesson program have increased dramatically (this is a good sign that more students are taking lessons privately, and obtaining some guidance in preparation for their progress evaluations)

-The school will not supply accompanists. There will be a list of pianists and suggested per hour amounts in the music office, hopefully by the end of the week.

-If students want to ask their individual teachers to come to the progress evaluations, they may do that; Prof. Lipsey is willing to arrange schedules so that teachers with limited time are able to hear their students.

-There will be a new letter coming out sometime this week outlining progress evaluation procedures; everyone should be strongly encouraged to read the letter.
