Student-Faculty Committee Meeting 4/3/2006
Members present: Prof. John, Prof. Schober, Prof. Pershing, Prof. Hart, Duane Haynes, Gary Padmore, Imani Mosley, Vanessa Azzarelli, Lesley Zlabinger
Old business:
Discussed last meetings minutes
Minutes were accepted
New business:
-Juries: Questions were brought up about policies discussed in the last meeting (should B.A. students (straight, not ed) students give juries if not taking lessons?) everyone should be taking lessons --- juries were used to urge people to take lessons (but unsuccessful?); Prof. John introduced Prof. Lipsey's points about progress evaluations; the question of adjunct teachers at juries, what is the purpose of juries (if different from lesson grades) the question of adjunct teachers at lessons, juries as parts of grades, etc should be brought to the faculty meeting; there should be a grade for juries (esp for performance majors); maybe the handbook needs to be revised (brought up at faculty meeting); the problem with B.A. accompanists (people need to get accompanists ahead of time, all pianists should accompany every year; topic for next meeting: reviewing the piano program); announce the letter regarding the new procedures in large ensembles
-Elections: Voting procedures you sign your name, fill out a ballot and give to the secretaries
-Imani told committee about the new blog/rss feed (acsmstudentfaculty.blogspot.com)
-Keys: Still problems with keys, people holding keys; Lesley suggested work study for keys (earn private lessons by being the working with the keys) should be brought up in the faculty meeting, still talking about the idea of moving the keys to the library
Concert attendance: (will also be new business) Require students to attend at least five concerts, etc; how do we implement this? (bring it up at faculty meeting?)
